Middle Tennessee Falls 60–58 at FIU

MIAMI, Fla. – Middle Tennessee (12–11, 7–4 CUSA) suffered a narrow road loss, falling 60–58 to FIU (14–8, 7–4 CUSA) on Saturday afternoon at Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
The Blue Raiders had a slow start in the first quarter, falling behind 0-6 before senior Alayna Contreras scored a three-pointer to narrow the gap to 6-3. MTSU kept pushing and got it to 14-10 before taking the lead in the second quarter with a solid 10-0 run, making it 20-14. They went into halftime with a score of 34-24.
However, in the third quarter, FIU mounted a 15-0 run to take a 40-39 lead, though freshman Blair Baugus responded with a three-pointer to regain the lead for MTSU at 42-40. The game featured four lead changes and five ties.
With the score tied late in the fourth quarter, FIU pulled ahead in the final minute and maintained their defensive efforts to secure the two-point victory.
Contreras led Middle Tennessee with 17 points and added six assists, while sophomore Savannah Davis contributed 12 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Yu Han Lin scored 10 points off the bench, and freshman Macie Phifer recorded eight rebounds and eight points.
Coach's Comments:
"We got off to a slow start, but then picked it up and took the lead. We kept turning the ball over, and we can't turn the ball over, and that's what we did."
