DALLAS – Isabella Johnson and Jillian Bowman were selected to Conference USA All-Academic Teams, as announced by the league office Thursday afternoon. The selections continue the trend of at least one Blue Raider being named to the team each year, dating back to 2016. It was the first selection to an academic team for the golfers, with Johnson being named first team and Bowman named to the second team.
Johnson was an automatic selection to the First Team, boasting a 4.0 GPA in her sophomore year as an accounting major with a minor in business administration. The Murfreesboro, Tenn., native leads the team in stroke average, at 72.11, a mark that currently stands as the lowest in single season program history. With 16 rounds at par or better this campaign, she has breezed past the previous single season record which stood at 12. Her five top-5 finishes in her first year at Middle Tennessee lead the team and she is the lone Blue Raider with a league weekly award, being named Golfer of the Week in February.
Bowman touts a 3.8 cumulative GPA in her exercise science major with a science minor, earning a spot on the Second Team. She has played in a career-high nine events in her junior season, averaging 75.32 strokes per round. She won her first collegiate individual crown at the Town & Country event in the fall with a 70 (-2) in the single day tournament. The Franklin, Tenn., native turned in her first five rounds at par or better throughout her junior campaign, with a low 18 at 69.
