MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Following a successful senior season with Middle Tennessee Men's Tennis, Freddy Murray has been selected to compete with Team Ireland at the upcoming Davis Cup.
The selection marks the fourth time in his career that he will join Team Ireland at the Cup, being played this year at the National Tennis Centre in Chisnau, Moldova. The event will run from June 10th through the 13th, with the pool winners earning promotions to next year's World Group II Play-offs, along with the winner of a play-off between the two second-placed teams. Murray will join Peter Buldorini, Conor Gannon and Charles Barry representing Ireland accompanied by team captain Conor Niland on the clay surface of Moldova.
"I'm super excited to get picked for the Davis Cup again," said Murray. "I am really looking forward to it and hopefully we can get the promotion to get back to World Group II!"
Murray joined the Blue Raiders for his senior season, playing primarily on the back courts in singles and tallying an 18-6 record in the spring. The singles specialist boasted a five-match win streak during the regular season, with four of those victories being in straight-sets.
The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis, often described as the "World Cup of Tennis". Organized annually by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), it features over 150 competing nations battling for the championship.
