Women's Tennis concludes day one of Memphis Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's tennis team wrapped up the first of three days at the Memphis Invitational on Friday, picking up four singles wins in the process.
MTSU's doubles pairings all fell on the day, with Victoria Matasova/Zhanel Rustemova, Sara Conde/Sthefany Lima, and Lena Peyer/Maria Palacios falling 3-6, 2-6, and 1-6 respectively to Arkansas State's doubles pairings.
The Blue Raiders fared much better in singles competition, beginning with Matasova defeating ASU's Lilly Cvanciger in a wire-to-wire contest, 7-5, 2-6, 10-5.
Rustemova followed things up with a victory of her own, taking down Red Wolves third-year Carla Muro Castellvi in straight sets, 7-6 (4), 7-5.
Arkansas State's Sara Kastakova earned her team one back, defeating Peyer in straight sets, 6-7 (0), 5-7.
The Blue and White earned their third singles win of the day courtesy of Lima defeating Meghna Arun Kumar in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Palacios surrendered her singles point to ASU's Lara Margocova in a three-set battle, 5-7, 6-3, 10-2.
The Red Wolves took a third singles point when Hanmare McAslin took down Conde by the slimmest of margins with the Spaniard falling, 6-4, 1-6, 10-8.
To conclude day one, Sadbaroy Kholdarova took care of business against Murray State's Rebecca Widan in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
The Blue Raiders will begin day two of the invitational on Saturday at 9 a.m. against Murray State.
