Volleyball Completes Weekend Sweep at Fairfield Invitational

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The Middle Tennessee volleyball team completed a weekend sweep at the Fairfield Invitational Saturday after defeating Brown and the hosting Stags at the Leo D. Mahoney Arena.
MTSU (9-3) closes its non-conference slate having not lost multiple games in a weekend throughout.
Sophia Henry starred on the weekend for the Blue Raiders, posting 49 kills to lead the team offensively.
Marianne Garcia picked up 47 digs and had a .902 reception percentage on the weekend.
Middle Tennessee 3, Brown 1
MTSU started the day with a 3-1 victory over the Bears, its fourth consecutive win.
Henry continued her impressive weekend, posting 23 kills to lead the Blue Raiders offense, a new career-high. Gabrielle Clinkscale followed with 13 kills and Michaela Dlouhá had eight.
Caroline Macander posted her first double-double of the season, collecting 44 assists and 19 digs, the latter of which was a career-high.
Dlouhá led MTSU in blocks in the match, scaling the net to pick up six.
Middle Tennessee won the first set with some breathing room, taking it 25-22. Henry had the decisive kill in the set and collected eight.
The Blue Raiders took the second set 25-21, cruising to a 2-0 lead in the match. Garcia's third ace of the match clinched it for Middle Tennessee.
Needing a win to keep the match alive, the Bears (1-6) did just that, winning a tight 25-23 third set to avoid the sweep.
MTSU would not need to wait long for its win, however, taking a dominant 25-19 set win to victory. Henry capped her career match with a kill to give the Blue Raiders their first win of the day.
Middle Tennessee 3, Fairfield 1
The Blue Raiders kept the momentum rolling against Fairfield (6-5), winning another match 3-1.
Gabrielle Clinkscale had 17 kills, followed by Michaela Dlouha and Jaslyn Reed with 14.
Danit Cohen posted a new career-high in assists with 29 in the match, sharing time at setter with Macander, who had 23.
Middle Tennessee handily beat the Stags in the first set, winning 25-11. Following a Henry kill, an attack error gave the Blue Raiders the victory.
Fairfield got one back in the second set, winning 25-22.
MTSU got back on track in the third set, winning 25-21 to retake the match lead. A Clinkscale kill clinched the win.
The Blue Raiders closed the match in the fourth set, winning 25-20. Logan Carr came up the middle to pick up the weekend sweep-clinching kill.
