Volleyball Opens Weekend with Sweep of Samford

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Middle Tennessee volleyball team swept Samford at the Belmont Invitational at the Curb Event Center in Nashville, Tennessee Friday.
The Blue Raiders (3-1) dominated the day and did not trail once in the match. MTSU additionally won the attempt battle 105-95 and had 44 kills to the Bulldogs' (0-3) 21.
Middle Tennessee also hit at a .276 rate, its best mark of the season.
Once again, team kills leader Michaela Dlouhá led the Blue Raiders on the day, picking up nine. Gabrielle Clinkscale picked up eight kills and Logan Carr picked up seven.
Defensively, Marianne Garcia led the way, picking up 15 digs. Dlouhá, the Conference USA leader in blocks, picked up six more, bringing her total on the season to 25.
A five-point rally in the first set to put MTSU up 13-6 set the tone early as the Blue Raiders took a 12-6 run into the 25-12 victory, closing the first set with a Clinkscale kill.
After a 6-6 tie in the second set, Middle Tennessee began pulling away. The Blue Raiders won set two 25-20 on a Kendall Migenerey kill assisted by Garcia.
MTSU took the lead early and kept its feet on the gas pedal in the third set, closing the match with a convincing 25-15 victory.

--MTSU now holds a 1-0 lead over Samford in the all-time series as Friday was the teams' first matchup.
--Sophia Henry collected seven kills Friday, surpassing the 700 career kill mark. Henry now has 701 career kills across her career at Middle Tennessee and Mercer.
--Mignerey recorded career highs Friday in kills with six. MIgnerey is four games into her court volleyball career.
--MTSU still leads CUSA in total blocks (49) and blocks-per-set (2.92). The team is 26th in the country in blocks-per-set.
