Soccer downs Alabama A&M, 5-0, for sixth shutout

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Middle Tennessee women's soccer team (5-1-2) got back to its winning ways Sunday afternoon, taking down Alabama A&M (1-3-1) 5-0 in Huntsville, Ala.
The Blue Raiders spread the scoring around, with all four of their goals coming from different scorers. Ania Denham opened the goal scoring early with a 10th-minute tally, the freshman's fourth goal of the season, courtesy of an assist from Saachi Bureau. Luiza Junior dos Santos was not far behind, knocking home her first goal as a Blue Raider in the 19th minute to double the lead. To wrap up the first half scoring, Hannah Murphy put one in the back of the net after an assist from Liza Miller, the freshman's first collegiate point.
The second half kicked off just like the first, with a quick MTSU goal to further the lead. Tori Gauch drove home her first career goal in the 48th minute with a dime from Jess Gray to push the advantage to four goals. The remainder of the match was quiet on both sides, until a penultimate minute foul was called on Alabama A&M in the box, leading to a Payton Pitman made penalty kick to secure the victory.
On the defensive side, Ella Sellers put up her third complete shutout of the season, thanks in part to another strong performance from the backline. The Blue Raiders allowed just one Bulldog shot in the 90 minutes and none on goal, not giving them a corner kick either. The result marks the sixth shutout of the season for Middle Tennessee goalkeepers.
Middle Tennessee has yet to concede a goal in three road contests, going unbeaten in those matches as well. The five goals mark the most for a Blue Raider team since Sep. 5, 2024, when the team also beat Alabama A&M 5-0 in Huntsville.
