The Middle Tennessee Sports Performance Center, which is located adjacent to the north end zone of Floyd Stadium, serves all MT student-athletes. The 10,000-plus square foot facility underwent a complete renovation in summer 2015.
Following is a more in-depth look at a few of the additions:
New Floor: The new system is called Mondo Sport Impact and will have a graphite gray color. The product is resistant to heavy weight of sports equipment, is non-slip and excellent resistance to heavy wear and tear, cutting or ripping. The floor will also have 16 parquet wood lifting platforms with a custom MT logo.
Nutrition Bar: Will have solid surface counter tops, storage for nutritional supplements; house all of the smoothie machines and chocolate milk, while helping monitor all of the student-athlete's strength and conditioning.
Equipment: The Blue Raiders are getting Power Lift equipment, which will be state-of-the-art and regarded as the best in the business. Schools like Alabama, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and Ohio State have recently put Power Lift in their weight rooms.
Turf: The 40-yard turf inside the facility is called Fast Grass Field Turf and will be used for agility drills, warm up and a place to work when the weather is cold. The Sports Medicine team at MT was heavily involved in selecting this turf and felt it was the most beneficial for the student-athletes.
The ceiling was also painted completely black and the facility received all new equipment, fresh paint, new signage and graphics, and a new sound system.
The center is operated and supervised by assistant athletic director Matt Riley and his team of four full-time certified coaches and two strength & conditioning assistants. Aiding Riley is Jason Spray, Bethany Gainey, Lance Campbell and Zach Willis.
Spray handles and oversees the efforts for the MT football program. Gainey serves as the strength coach for volleyball, softball and soccer, while Campbell works with men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, along with assisting Jason Spray with football. Additonally, Willis oversees men's basketball while assisting Spray with football.
