Blue Raider football is on the air! The 2025 football season marks the 19th year of the Blue Raider Network under the umbrella of Middle Tennessee athletics and Van Wagner.
The Blue Raider Network, which actually debuted in the early 1960s, is blessed with three major outlets for football and men’s basketball, including NewsRadio WGNS AM-FM (101.9/1450 AM) in Murfreesboro, 100.5 in Smyrna and a major market outlet in Nashville with 93.3 FM Classic Hits which will also be heard in Murfreesboro on 95.1 FM.
The combination of these stations provides coverage to MT sports fans in a 100-mile radius of Murfreesboro.
93.3 FM provides a strong signal to the northern half of middle Tennessee and into southern Kentucky.
WGNS and 93.3 FM (95.1 FM in Murfreesboro) will carry all Blue Raider football games along with the Derek Mason radio show. 93.3 FM and 95.1 in Murfreesboro will carry all Blue Raider men’s basketball games and the Nick McDevitt radio show.
WGNS, which made its return to carrying MT athletics in 2005, blankets the local area by reaching to McMinnville to the east, Columbia to the west, and Gallatin to the north. The locally owned station carried its first MT broadcast back in 1947 and will continue to carry Blue Raider football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball, and coaches shows in 2024-25.
Chip Walters returns for his 17th season as the Voice of the Blue Raiders and his 35th year as a member of the Blue Raider Network broadcast crew. He will be joined in the football booth this season by Nashville media darling Joe Dubin. Dubin has been in Nashville television and radio for many years and will be joining Walters for the third straight season. Former Blue Raider assistant coach Kyle Turnham will return as Walters’ on-air partner for Blue Raider basketball to provide his well-prepared insight. Longtime play-by-play professional, Joe Fisher, begins his second year handling women's basketball for the network. The Old Pro, Dick Palmer, will be back on the mic for Blue Raider baseball. Palmer’s Blue Raider Network career dates back to 1981 when he took over the play-by-play duties from the legendary Monte Hale. Palmer and JP Plant will also handle pre-game and post-game football duties on the network.
