Middle Tennesee State University Athletics

June 23, 1972 marked a monumental day for Women’s Sports. As the world reflects on Title IX, its impact, progress and celebration of the last 50 years’ worth of work is imperative. For MTSU Athletics, this celebration and recognition includes monthly themes that encompass all areas of women’s sports, engagement opportunities and events throughout the calendar year.
MTSU Athletics aims to honor 50 years of comprehensive excellence from our female student-athletes and coaches since the creation of Title IX in 1972 as well as inspire philanthropy. Through philanthropy, we will work to enhance the educational and athletic related resources Blue Raiders provides to help shape the next generation of female leaders. MTSU remains committed to empowering female student-athletes and coaches both past and present.

Early in my career, I realized that things were very different for even [volleyball and women's basketball], and they weren't anywhere near the men's sports. So when you talk about all the aspects of Title IX - having the ability to be coached, having the same equipment, having the same opportunities to practice, having the same opportunities to get tutors and athletic training - we don't worry about those today. We know that our athletes are going to get the same kind of care, the same kind of coaching, and that's exciting to me.Diane Turnham, Senior Associate AD/SWA/Former MTSU volleyball and basketball coach
