Azar Wilson, a former player at Middle Tennessee, begins his first season as a member of Rick Stockstill’s staff. Wilson will be a defensive graduate assistant.
Wilson makes his way to Murfreesboro following one year at Shorter University as a graduate assistant working with the defensive line.
Prior to Shorter, Wilson spent one season at North Carolina A&T where he doubled as an assistant defensive line and assistant strength and conditioning coach. He helped the Aggies win the MEAC championship and a win in the Celebration Bowl.
Wilson began his coaching career in 2018 as an intern strength and conditioning coach at the University of Alabama, where he helped implement all aspects of the Crimson Tide’s strength and conditioning program. Alabama would go on to win the SEC Championship and also achieve an Orange Bowl Victory.
Before coaching, Wilson played college football as a defensive lineman and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in Exercise Science in 2017. Wilson started his playing career at MTSU as a walk on in 2014 before going on to earn a scholarship in his last season (2016). Also while at MTSU, he was a member of two bowl teams (The Bahamas Bowl & The Hawaii Bowl).
Wilson is a Georgia native of Powder Springs, where he played football and graduated from McEachern High School.
