Former Blue Raider great running back I’Tavius Mathers is in his first season at Middle Tennessee as an offensive graduate assistant. Mathers played for Rick Stockstill and the Blue Raiders in 2016 following three years at Ole Miss.
Mathers has spent the previous four years coaching running backs at Blackman High School.
In his lone season with the Blue Raiders, Mathers put together the best single-season for a running back in school history. Mathers rushed for a single-season record 1,561 yards and 17 touchdowns to go with 66 catches for 633 yards and three scores. He was the first player in NCAA FBS history to have 1,500 yards rushing, 500 yards receiving and 60 catches in the same season.
In 2016, the Blue Raiders went 8-5 with an upset win at Missouri and a trip to the Hawaii Bowl.
Mathers earned his undergraduate degree from Middle Tennessee in 2016.
