Maurquice Shakir, a former Blue Raider and NFL player, begins his first season on Rick Stockstill’s staff as an offensive graduate assistant.
Shakir, from Los Angeles, Calif., played for the Blue Raiders from 2014 through 2016 as an offensive lineman. After redshirting in 2014, Shakir started in 25 of 26 games, earned all-conference honors each year and played in two bowl games (Bahamas and Hawaii).
Following his Blue Raider career, Shakir went undrafted in the NFL but signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2017 and eventually was promoted to the active roster. In 2018 he signed with the Houston Texans before being drafted in the third round of the 2020 XFL Draft by the Dallas Renegades.
Shakir earned his undergraduate degree in Liberal Studies from Middle Tennessee in 2016.
