Courtney Whitson enters her first season as the Assistant Coach – Coordinator of Basketball Relations on Head Coach Rick Insell’s Middle Tennessee women’s basketball staff.
Her responsibilities at Middle Tennessee include collaborating directly with Coach Insell to help cultivate a competitive NCAA Division I Women's Basketball program. This role involves coaching student-athletes during practices and games, providing personalized skill training, recruiting both academically accomplished and skilled players, and fostering community engagement. Key responsibilities encompass managing communication with university officials, coordinating travel logistics, overseeing recruiting efforts, executing community service initiatives and NCAA Life Skill programs, as well as nurturing athletes' personal growth for their university and community roles.
Additionally, Whitson will evaluate eligibility transcripts, maintain digital platforms, orchestrate game day recruitment activities, and liaise with various stakeholders, ensuring adherence to NCAA guidelines, while mentoring athletes, enforcing NCAA compliance, and contributing to team events and fundraisers.
Whitson’s name has been synonymous with Blue Raider basketball in her five seasons in Murfreesboro. The forward is the program’s all-time leading three-point scorer and ranks first all-time in games played, games started and minutes played in program history. Whitson is one of just two Blue Raiders to record 1,000 career rebounds and became the 33rd member of the Lady Raider 1,000-point club.
Excelling both on and off the court, the five-time letter winner earned three All-Conference USA selections, as well as, became the first three-time True Blue President's Award winner – presented annually to one male and one female student-athlete, the President's Award recognizes outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments, university/community service and leadership.
Originally from Kingsport, Tennessee, Whitson graduated from Middle Tennessee with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English in 2023 and is currently pursuing a Master of Professional Studies with a concentration in Strategic Leadership.
