MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee men's tennis will look to earn their first road win of the season when the Blue Raiders travel to Atlanta to face No. 30 Georgia State on Sunday.
The Panthers enter the weekend with an 8-6 record, winning against No. 27 Florida State, Auburn, UAB and ETSU already this season. All six of Georgia State's losses came to teams currently ranked in the Feb. 22 ITA top-50 list.
Georgia State owns the all-time series against the Blue Raiders, 6-5, including the Panthers' most recent victory last season, when the match was moved from the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center to the Adams Tennis Complex in the middle of singles play due to rain.
"We had a close match against Georgia State last year, and we are looking forward to another hard-fought match this weekend," MT assistant coach Daniel Leitner said. "Our guys need to focus on coming out with the right mindset and control the things that we can control to put ourselves in the position to win."
Senior Zackery Kennedy currently has a 7-6 record in dual match singles, with five wins coming at the top spot in the lineup. Playing a variety of positions toward the front of the Georgia State lineup is Andrei Andrukhou, who's posted a 7-3 mark so far this season. The depth of the Georgia State lineup is evident, with three players combining for a 9-3 record at the No. 5 spot.
"You're always going to get wins from guys in different positions, so having certain positions that you can rely on is definitely important in big matches like this one," Leitner added.
Live stats will be provided Sunday, and information throughout the season will be provided on Twitter, @MT_MensTennis, and Facebook, MTSU Men's Tennis.
MT returns to the Adams Tennis Complex for an outdoor home match on March 31 for the MT Shootout. The Conference USA Championship will also be at the ATC on April 21-23.
