Adams Tennis Complex – Indoor
The 70,000-square-foot complex sports eight indoor tennis courts, two electronic scoreboards, pro shop, and lounge area with a mezzanine for spectator viewing. The Adams Indoor Tennis Complex, a joint partnership between the City, MTSU and the Christy-Houston Foundation, becomes the official home of the Blue Raider tennis program.
The tennis project was part of the university's $80 million Centennial Campaign announced in April 2012.
"We are stepping up our game in all of our 17 sports as we make our presence known in Conference USA," Middle Tennessee President Sidney A. McPhee said at the groundbreaking ceremony. "This facility will make the Murfreesboro area a tennis destination. It will allow us to bid to be host of major competitions, including the C-USA championships, which in turn will create economic opportunities for the city and county."
McPhee pointed to a previous successful collaboration with the city through the Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium, which plays a critical role in the city being able to host the Spring Fling high school sports championships each year.
The tennis project, which was funded by a combination of university, city and private funds, received an additional boost from the nonprofit Christy-Houston Foundation, whose president Bob Mifflin presented a $500,000 check to the City of Murfreesboro toward the effort.
The Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department operate the facility, allowing Blue Raider tennis practices and matches to take place from November until March while also providing opportunities for the city to host other tournaments throughout the year.
The new facility also will give the Murfreesboro community more opportunities to watch the Blue Raiders in action without traveling to Nashville.
The ATC has been home to the 2016 Conference USA Women’s Tennis Championship, 2016 ITA Women’s Ohio Valley Regional, 2017 C-USA Men’s Tennis Championship, 2017 ITA Summer Circuit, 2017 ITA Women’s Ohio Valley Regional and the 2019 C-USA Men’s Tennis Championship.
In July 2020, the Blue Raiders installed the PlaySight Smart Court system on six courts indoors. This system can help analyze all aspects of game play, including but not limited to, serve speed, ball rotation, etc. PlaySight also stores all of the teams' workouts and home matches in the cloud, so that players and coaches are able to go back and review the play either through the on-court consoles or online at home.
Admission is free to any event hosted by the Blue Raiders at the Adams Tennis Complex.
