MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's soccer team will round out its three-match road trip when it travels to Carrollton, Ga. on Sunday to take on the University of West Georgia at 12 p.m. CT.
MTSU (2-0-1)'s clash with UWG (0-2-1) in the City of Dreams will be the second-ever as the Blue Raiders look to stay undefeated through their first four matches of the season for the second consecutive year.
Quick Kicks
- After defeating Troy last Thursday, the Blue and White are now 11-10-4 in season openers under head coach Aston Rhoden, having now won two straight (Belmont, 2-1, Aug. 14, 2025).
- MTSU has not conceded a goal through its first three matches in 2026, a defensive record last achieved in the 2015 season (1-0 at Tennessee Tech, 1-0 vs. Jacksonville State, and 1-0 vs. Western Carolina).
- Team captains Hannah Murphy and Megan Carroll have led by example in 2026, as Murphy scored a penalty kick against Troy and Carroll scored her team's second goal against Southern Indiana to help MTSU to a 2-0 start.
- Sophomore defender Scottie Newton took home CUSA Defender of the Week honors on Aug. 18 after playing 174 minutes and helping her team to concede zero goals and the fewest shots faced by any CUSA team (13) during the season so far.
- Sophomore defender/midfielder Charli Dunn was recently called up to represent the New Zealand U-20 National Team at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Poland from Sept. 5-27, that she will begin with group stage matches against Italy, the United States, and Japan.
Series History
The matchup with the Wolves will be the second between the schools in program history but the first in Carrollton, with the Blue Raiders claiming victory in the first meeting at home on Aug. 31, 2025, 3-0.
Scouting the Wolves
The Blue Raiders conclude their three-match road trip with a Sunday afternoon tilt at West Georgia, who finished 4-13-2 (2-6-2 ASUN) and T-9 in the conference leaderboard. The Wolves' 2025 season ended with a 1-1 draw to eventual conference runners-up UNF. UWG makes the jump to the brand-new United Athletic Conference in 2026, joining EKU, North Alabama, Little Rock, Abilene Christian, Central Arkansas, Tarleton State, and Austin Peay. West Georgia was picked to finish eighth in the 2026 UAC Preseason Women's Soccer Coaches Poll.
In 2026, the Wolves return eight starters, including senior midfielder Noemi Casique, who paced her squad with four goals and eight points last season. Midfielder Kaylen Brown also features after scoring three goals in her freshman season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Sanabria retains her place in between the posts after recording two shutouts and tying the save lead in the ASUN with 116 from logging 1,437 minutes. Her .768 save percentage is also the best by a UWG goalkeeper in the Division I era.
The Wolves are led by third-year head coach Mallory Sayre, who doubled UWG's win total from her first season in charge to her second.
