MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee begins a three-game homestand this weekend with a pair of conference tilts, taking on Denver Friday at 4 p.m. before hosting North Texas Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Blue Raider Soccer Field.
The Blue Raiders won a pair of road matches last weekend, defeating Arkansas-Little Rock, 5-2, Friday in a constant rainstorm before taking a 5-1 decision against Arkansas State Sunday in Jonesboro. Freshman Danielle LaDuke led the attack with three goals in each match, and now has three straight matches with a hat trick and 19 points in her last three contests, all MT victories. LaDuke was named conference player of the week for her efforts. The Blue Raiders also set a school record Sunday with their third straight road win, eclipsing the previous mark of two set four times in the school's first five seasons of soccer.
Denver heads into Friday's meeting with Middle Tennessee 9-2 on the season, including a five-game winning streak. The Pioneers are 2-1 in Sun Belt play, defeating Arkansas-Little Rock and Arkansas State and dropping a 2-1 decision at North Texas. DU defeated Arizona and Wyoming last weekend, dropping the Wildcats, 3-0, at home before taking a 1-0 decision at Wyoming.
Iowa State transfer Katie Antongiovanni and senior Molly George lead the Pioneers in scoring with eight goals apiece, while four players have four assists each to share the team lead: Antongiovanni, Mychael Movius, Camile Flenniken and Jamie Norwood.
The Eagles of North Texas enter the weekend 6-3 overall, 3-0 in conference play after a pair of nonconference matches last weekend. UNT dropped a 2-1 overtime decision at Oral Roberts before winning 6-1 at Northeastern State. The Lady Eagles take on Western Kentucky Friday evening before Sunday's tilt against the Blue Raiders.
UNT's Marilyn Marin leads the league in goals and points, and teammate Melinda Pina is second in the conference in assists. Goalie Monica Housden ranks sixth in the Sun Belt in goals-against-average, just behind MT's Emily Shrum.
