MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee plays its third home game in a row, hosting the Mountaineers of Appalachian State at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Blue Raider Soccer Field.
The two teams were supposed to meet earlier in the season on September 14 at ASU, but that match was canceled after the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.
The Mountaineers enter the match 6-4-3 on the season and winners of their last three, all shutout victories, over East Tennessee, Furman and Wofford. ASU's season has been one of streaks, including a pair of three-game winning streaks, a four-match losing skid, and a pair of ties to open the campaign.
MT lost a pair of one-goal decisions over the weekend to conference foes Denver and North Texas, dropping the Blue Raiders overall record to 6-6, 2-3 in Sun Belt play.
The Blue Raiders defeated the Mountaineers in 2000, beating ASU 1-0 in double overtime, as now assistant coach Kenya Hickey ended the match in the 110th minute on a breakaway. But the Mountaineers won contests between the two schools in 1998 (2-1) and 1999 (2-0).
The Blue Raiders play two of their next three matches at home, but first must travel to Western Kentucky for a 5:30 p.m. match Friday. MT hosts Belmont on Sunday, October 21, at 2 p.m. on Senior Day, and plays the final home match of the year on Tuesday, October 23, versus Georgia State.
