MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee soccer team hits the road for the weekend with a Friday night match at South Alabama before concluding the regular season Sunday at Louisiana-Lafayette.
The Blue Raiders and South Alabama play at 7 p.m. Friday and have met each of the last two seasons, with the Jaguars winning both matches. USA took a 3-0 victory last season in Middle Tennessee's first year in the Sun Belt. The Jaguars enter the match 8-6-1 overall, 3-3 in the conference after dropping road matches at Denver and North Texas last weekend. USA is just one game ahead of the Blue Raiders in the league standings heading into the weekend.
The Jaguars are led by senior forward Cindy Rainville, who has team-leading totals of seven goals, four assists and 18 points. Rainville is the only USA player in double-digits in scoring.
The Blue Raiders hold a 1-0 series advantage over Louisiana-Lafayette, defeating the Ragin' Cajuns 5-1 last season in Murfreesboro. Five different Blue Raiders scored in the victory, including goals from current team members Megan Holsten, Sheri Robbins and Emily Carter. Sarah Schulz and Jenny Cox each added two assists, while Holsten and Carter also tallied assists in the match.
Lafayette enters the weekend 5-9 overall, 2-4 in Sun Belt play. The Cajuns also lost at North Texas and Denver last weekend, snapping their three-game winning streak. Melissa Purvis leads the Cajuns in scoring with four goals, three assists and 11 points.
The Sun Belt Conference Tournament begins October 31 in Miami, Fla., hosted by Florida International.
