MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders host the Alabama Crimson Tide and Eastern Illinois Panthers in a pair of soccer games added to the schedule after MT lost two contests last week. Saturday's match with Alabama begins at 1 p.m., with Sunday's contest versus Eastern Illinois kicking off at Noon.
The Blue Raiders and Crimson Tide have met just once, an October 9, 1996, outing in which MT lost by forfeit. Alabama comes into the match 5-0 after defeating Arkansas State on the road Tuesday and Birmingham Southern on Thursday. Alabama was scheduled to make a trip West this weekend to take on Northern Arizona and New Mexico, but that trip was canceled late last week.
Sunday the Blue Raiders face former OVC foe Eastern Illinois. MT won its only meeting in five tries against the Panthers last season, defeating EIU, 5-0, at home. Jenny Cox and Sarah Schulz each had two assists and now assistant coach Kenya Hickey netted two goals in the victory.
The Panthers come into the match 4-1 after defeating DePaul Tuesday afternoon. EIU won its first three matches of the year before dropping a 2-0 decision to Eastern Michigan. The Panthers were scheduled to play in the Outrigger Invitational this weekend in Honolulu, Hawaii, but that trip was also canceled late last week.
The two home matches begin a five-game homestand for the Blue Raiders, including three matches next week. MT hosts Murray State on Tuesday, opens Sun Belt action against Florida International on Friday, and finishes the homestand with a Sunday meeting versus Lipscomb.
