Soccer Heads to Alabama & Auburn

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders hit the road again for weekend matches at 23rd-ranked Auburn and Alabama on Friday and Sunday, respectively. Friday's contest on the Plains begins at 7:30 p.m., with Sunday's kickoff in Tuscaloosa scheduled for 1 p.m. The Blue Raiders (1-3-1) have never met the No. 23 Tigers and stand 1-1 versus the Crimson Tide after a 2-1 victory last season in Murfreesboro. Overall, the Blue Raiders are 1-5 all-time against the SEC and 9-7-2 against teams from the state of Alabama (UA, UAH, Jacksonville State, Montevallo, Samford, South Alabama and Troy State). The Tigers enter the match 4-0, outscoring their opponent a combined 10-1 in those matches. Freshman midfielder Jessie Allan leads AU in scoring with three goals and eight points, followed by Christina Culver and Kristen Stewart with a pair of goals and five points apiece. The Crimson Tide head into the weekend 3-1 on the season, including wins over Tulane, Louisiana-Monroe and Chattanooga, and a loss at William & Mary this past Sunday. Senior Kim Zarzour leads the squad in scoring with four goals and nine points, followed by Cally Morrill with a pair of scores and six points. Alabama plays at South Alabama Friday night before Sunday's match against the Blue Raiders. "The Auburn match is of great importance for a lot of reasons," Blue Raider head coach Aston Rhoden said. "Auburn plays the same type of formation we will see later in the season against Denver, Florida International and North Texas, so this match is a good opportunity to learn how we match-up against this type of system and where we need to make adjustments. "Psychologically we need to see how our players respond to getting up for the big game, and the road environments are also a good learning process for road games in the conference later in the season." The Blue return home to take on Alabama A&M on September 20 at 3 p.m.
