MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Senior Emily Carter scored the game-winner in the 50th minute, setting a new career goals record, as Middle Tennessee defeated Arkansas-Little Rock, 1-0, Friday afternoon in Little Rock, Ark.
Carter's goal gives the Evansville, Ind., native 22 career tallies, passing Hailee Walsh's mark of 21 set in 1998-99. It also marks Carter's third goal in the last two matches and her fifth score of the season. Her goal came on a scramble in front of the net following a corner kick.
Middle Tennessee outshot the homestanding Trojans, 18-6, in the match, missing several chances to score in both halves.
"We came out and didn't play particularly well in the first half," Middle Tennessee head coach Aston Rhoden said. "But we continued working and Emily put one in the net that decided the match."
The Blue Raiders finish a three-match road swing Sunday at 1 p.m. against Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Ark.
