NASHVILLE - The Middle Tennessee men's cross country team had three finishers in the top 30 overall and finished fifth as a team in the Commodore Invitational at Percy Warner Park Saturday.
Junior transfer Derek Dell finished 14th in the 8k event, hosted by Vanderbilt, to record his highest finish as a Blue Raider with a time of 26:40.95. Sophomore teammate Jonathan Guillou (26:54.88) was 21st, and David Hughes (27:38.0) was 30th. Geoffrey Lagat (27:47.30) and Carlos Gonzalez (28:15.02) rounded out the scoring for Middle Tennessee.
The event drew men's and women's teams from 14 schools and had more than 140 runners.
On the women's side, Middle Tennessee didn't field enough competitors for a team score, but the Lady Raiders had three individuals to participate. Sara Lunning (21:30.03) led the way for Middle Tennessee and was 43rd overall, followed closely by teammate Marjorie Gombert (21:31.07), who was 44th. Miranda Gallaway (22:33.0) was 65th overall.
Middle Tennessee is scheduled to participate in the WKU Old Timers Classic in Bowling Green, Ky., next Saturday.
