Women's Tennis Heads to Kentucky

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - After a very successful opening fall tournament, the Middle Tennessee women's tennis team and first-year head coach Alison Ojeda return to action this weekend in the 12-team University of Kentucky Fall Invitational in Lexington, Ky.
Ojeda's group posted 10 singles and four doubles victories last weekend at the UTC Baras Fall Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn., reaching three finals. Freshmen Kelly Adams and Pooja Kommireddi reached singles finals in Flights B and C, respectively, while the only two returning players - Claudia Szabo and Ann-Kristin Siljestrom - made it to the Flight A doubles final. Ojeda was very pleased with her team's play in Chattanooga, and wants to continue building as the fall progresses.
"All of our players, at some point during the tournament, put into play what we've been working so hard on in practice," Ojeda said. "It was a very good tournament for everyone and a good way to start. The competition level will only get tougher this weekend, so we have to step up our games and meet the challenge with every match."
Teams scheduled to participate in this weekend's event at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex on the UK campus include: Kentucky, Auburn, Purdue, Ohio State, East Tennessee, Illinois, Middle Tennessee, Denver, Louisville, Marshall, Eastern Kentucky and Abilene Christian.
The tournament begins Friday with singles action in the morning and doubles play in the afternoon.
In Flight A singles, Ann-Kristin Siljestrom takes on Denver's Suzana Makovic at 9:30 a.m. CT, while in Flight B Kelly Adams faces Kentucky's Laura Mauer and Marlene Chemin plays Marshall's Jeane Schwartz, both at 8 a.m. Pooja Kommireddi faces Auburn's Erin Gray at 9:30 a.m. in Flight C singles.
In Flight A doubles, Chemin-Adams plays Ohio State's Caitlin O'Keefe and Julie Voss, and Siljestrom-Kommireddi takes on Purdue's Mallory Voelker and Anya Dzeva in Flight B, with both matches starting at 3 p.m. CT.
