MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee defeated Lipscomb 8-3 on Wednesday afternoon in its only midweek game.
Junior Chad Edwards (2-0) took the win on the mound as he allowed two runs on four hits in six innings of work.
"I thought Chad was very solid. His first inning was a little rough but it wasn't bad. I thought he did very well and gave us a good solid performance," head coach Steve Peterson said.
The Blue Raiders improved to 10-2 on the season while the Bisons fell to 5-7. Middle Tennessee had 11 hits on the day with sophomore Bryce Brentz hitting a home run, which was the only extra base hit.
Brentz ended the day 2 for 5 with three RBI and scored two runs. Senior Rawley Bishop had the only other multiple hit day as he went 3 for 5 with one RBI and scored a run.
"Rawley is proven and has shown what kind of RBI guy he can be. We have to start hitting better all the way through. I am playing three different second basemen right now and each one provides something different," Peterson said. "I don't worry as much about batting average as I do how many at bats a guy has or how many runs they have driven in."
Lipscomb started the scoring early putting two runs on the board in the first inning with a triple being the only hit in the inning.
The Blue Raiders cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fourth as Hines singled bringing in McDade from third.
Middle Tennessee kept the pace in the fifth tying the game on a single to left field by Bishop which scored Burnett from second. Two more runs scored on an error by the shortstop on a ball hit by Meinhart. Middle Tennessee scored three runs on four hits with one error in the inning taking a 4-2 lead.
Lipscomb added a run in the top of the eighth on a groundball to the second baseman which brought in a runner from third making it a one run game.
A single by pinch hitter Zach Dean scored one run and then Brentz hit a three-run home run to left field to break the game open giving the Blue Raiders an 8-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth.
The Blue Raiders will be back in action on Friday, March 13 when it plays host to Arkansas State at 6 p.m. in the first game of a three game series. Live stats and audio will be available on goblueraiders.com for each game of the series.
