Blue Raiders lose to Jags 4-3

MOBILE, Ala. - Middle Tennessee lost to South Alabama 4-3 after David Doss hit a single to deep left field with the bases loaded in the bottom of the night to drive in the winning run.
Middle Tennessee (28-12, 16-6) had just six hits on the night, three for extra bases, but no one had more than one hit in the game, leaving five runners on base.
Junior Ben Darlington drove in two of Middle Tennessee's three runs and had a home run while senior Nathan Hines tripled and sophomore Tyler Burnett doubled to account for the other extra base hits.
Doss ended the night 1 for 5 with two RBI and his game winning RBI set the career RBI record at South Alabama (21-20, 9-10).
The Jags ended the night with 11 hits with just two for extra bases while leaving 10 runners on base.
Freshman Brett Wilson took the loss on the mound for Middle Tennessee after he allowed one run on one hit in 1.2 innings of work.
Junior Coty Woods entered the game in the ninth giving up one hit in two-thirds innings of work.
Sophomore Bryce Brentz started the game on the mound for Middle Tennessee working four innings allowing three runs on seven hits before leaving the mound.
D.D. Hanks took the win for USA as he worked two perfect innings with three strikeouts. Miles Ethridge received the start working seven innings allowing three runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
The Jags scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first but Middle Tennessee quickly responded tying the game a one in the top of the second.
Then the Blue Raiders took a one run lead in the top of the fourth on a single by McDade allowing Brentz to score from third.
USA tied it back at 2 on a double to right field by Drake in the bottom of the fourth. Then the Jags took a one run lead on a sacrifice fly by Davis to bring in a runner from third.
Darlington hit a solo shot to left in the top of the sixth for the Blue Raiders to tie the game at 3.
The Blue Raiders will play the second game of the series with South Alabama on Saturday, April 25 at 2 p.m.
