Hines leads MT in 18-13 win over APSU

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Senior Nathan Hines guided the Blue Raiders in an 18-13 win over Austin Peay on Wednesday night. Hines accounted for 10 of Middle Tennessee's (32-12) 18 runs as he ended the day 4 for 5 with a double, home run, five RBI and scored five runs. Middle Tennessee had 21 hits on the night five of which were for extra bases. Senior Rawley Bishop added assistance as he was 2 for 3 with a home run, three RBI and scored three runs. Senior Taylor Dennis had three hits on the night as he went 3 for 6 with a double, two RBI and scored two runs. "Every good team is successful with ugly wins. You are on the left hand side of ugly wins and you will have them. Usually it is because of defense and pitching faltering. I am very proud of the team hanging in there and continuing to drive in hits," head coach Steve Peterson said. Sophomore Jud Stoltz (2-1) picked up the win as he worked six innings allowing two runs on six hits. "It shows you how well Jud pitched tonight because until we got to Chad the relievers did not look good," Peterson said. The Blue Raiders used five relievers in the game with senior Chad Coley entering the game to round out the top of the ninth as he allowed no runs or hits with one strikeout. Austin Peay (18-26) had 17 hits on the night with eight extra base hits leaving 13 runners on base. Greg Bachman, Haskell Fink and Jared DeLong each had three hits on the night for the Govs. Middle Tennessee began the game by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first and never stopped. The Blue Raiders also scored three runs in the third and fourth to take a 10-1 lead headed into the fifth inning. With two outs in the seventh Fink hit a three-run home run to left field cutting the Blue Raider lead to six, 12-6. In the next at bat, Baggett hit a solo shot to centerfield. APSU scored five runs on four hits in the inning to close the gap, 12-7. The Blue Raiders extended the lead again in the eight scoring four runs on three hits which included a two-run shot to left by Bishop. The Blue Raiders will travel to Troy, Ala., to face Troy in its final road games of the season. The first game of the three-game series is set to begin at 6 p.m. at Riddle Pace Field on Friday, May 1.
