MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Sun Belt Conference announced today that Middle Tennessee senior defensive back Rod Issac has been named the league's Defensive Player of the Week. It marks the first honor in Issac's Blue Raider career.
Issac, out of Miami, Fla., made the game-changing play in Saturday's comeback win on the road against rival Western Kentucky. With WKU facing a 4th and Goal from the Blue Raider 1-yard line and a chance to go up by three scores, Issac scooped up a fumble and went 100 yards for his second touchdown of the season. It allowed the Blue Raiders to pull to within six points at 26-20 with a little over 10 minutes to play.
The return matched the longest in school history and was Issac's third career touchdown. He scored earlier this year on a 70-yard interception return against ULM and as a freshman against ASU he picked up a fumble and scored from 42 yards out.
The award gives the Blue Raiders 38 player of the week honors under Rick Stockstill with nine on offense, 14 on defense, and 15 on special teams.
