MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The Middle Tennessee track & field team released its 2011-12 indoor and outdoor schedule on Tuesday.
The Blue Raiders will once again open up the indoor season by hosting the Christmas Invitational on Dec. 10. Following Christmas break, the team will travel to Nashville to compete in the Ed Temple Classic on Jan. 7 before heading to Lexington, Ky., for the Kentucky Invitational on Jan. 13-14.
"We are excited as always about this season's schedule," said track & field head coach Dean Hayes. "We have a number of events early in the season in which many of our performers will be able to showcase their talent."
Middle Tennessee will return home for the Blue Raider Invitational on Jan. 21, the first of four home meets in a six-week span. After returning from Lexington, Ky., for the Rod McCravey Memorial, the team will host the Middle Tennessee Invitational on Feb. 4 and the Valentine Invitational on Feb. 11.
The home stretch concludes when the Sun Belt Indoor Championships return to Murfreesboro on Feb. 25-26. The indoor season culminates with the NCAA Championships which will be held in Boise, Idaho.
The outdoor schedule begins with trips to Nashville, Tenn., for the Vanderbilt Open on March 24 followed by a visit to the Yellow Jacket Invitational on March 31 in Atlanta, Ga.
The Blue Raiders open up a busy April in which the team will send athletes to six competitions, highlighted by the prestigious Penn Relays on April 26-28.
"We have several very good outdoor meets on our schedule," Hayes said. "These meets give our athletes the opportunity to show what they can do against great competition."
This season's Sun Belt Outdoor Championships will be held in Lafayette, La. The Blue Raider men captured the league title the last time the Championships were hosted by ULL in 2007.
"Hopefully we can repeat our performance from the last time the Sun Belt Championships were in Lafayette," said Hayes.
The outdoor season will wrap up on June 6-9 with the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
