MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee soccer secured its second win of the weekend with a 2-0 victory against FIU to improve to 3-2-1 in Conference USA play for 10 points in the league and 6-6-2 overall.
Freshman Peyton McCollum recorded her second game-winning goal of the weekend with a rifling shot from 15 yards out in the 27th minute to give Middle Tennessee the 1-0 lead. Grace Summers registered to assist on the goal for her 11th point of the season.
The Blue Raiders got their second goal of the game in before the half as Tori Hawkins sent a corner kick into the six yard box as Kelsie Roberts put the ball to the back of the net for the 2-0 lead. The goal by the senior defender was her second of the season with both of her goals coming off of corner kicks.
"FIU is a very good team, they've always been a good team," Head Coach Aston Rhoden said. "We knew coming in that it was going to be a tough game. I think the difference maker today was that we took advantage of the opportunities we were given."
The Blue Raiders were out-shot 19-11 in the game as Kelsey Brouwer snagged six saves on the day for her fifth shutout of the season.
Of MT's four shots on goal the Blue Raiders were able to put away two of them. The victory makes the Blue Raiders undefeated in their last four contests and secures their 20th-consecutive winning season at home as they are now 4-3-1 at Dean A. Hayes Stadium this season.
Middle Tennessee will hit the road next to face WKU on October 17th, followed by Marshall on October 19th.
