MT falls 4-3 in overtime rivalry game vs. WKU

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Middle Tennessee soccer restored its rivalry with Western Kentucky on Friday night but fell in a 4-3 overtime heartbreaker.
In the 30th minute WKU's Iris Dunn scored a goal off a shot from 20 yards out to put the Hilltoppers up 1-0 before the half.
Lai tied the match up in the 55th minute with a shot from the right side of the box into the left corner of the goal. The goal was her second of the season as Grace Summers collected the assist.
Brianna Jasenak put the Blue Raiders on top 2-1 as Lai sent a cross in and she was able to head it to the back of the net in the 62nd minute.
Moments later Dunn tied the game at 2-2 as she put away a penalty kick. Within seconds the Hilltoppers took the 3-2 lead as Haley Baldridge put away shot from the right side of the pitch.
The Blue Raiders rallied back as Amalie Anderdal served a corner kick into the box as freshman defender Kathy Thomas sent the header into the goal to tie the game 3-3 in the 68th minute.
The match was sent into overtime after the teams were deadlocked at 3-3 after 90 minutes.
In the 108th minute WKU capatalized off a cross in the box as Baldridge scored her second goal of the match to end the game with the golden goal.
Brouwer collected five saves in the match, while Lai finished the game with five shots to lead the team. Middle Tennessee led WKU in shots with 19 to the Hilltoppers 16.
Middle Tennesse drops to 6-7-2 overall and 3-3-1 in C-USA play. They continue this road swing with a game at Marshall on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m.
