MT Plays to 2-2 Draw At Southern Miss

Blue Raiders tie program record for overtime games

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Middle Tennessee soccer played Southern Miss to a 2-2 draw on the road on Sunday afternoon to move to 1-2-1 in Conference USA play and 4-6-2 overall.
In the 16th minute Southern Miss' Casey Adkins responded to a ball deflected off Middle Tennessee's defender and was able to slot the ball past Kelsey Brouwer to give the Golden Eagles the 1-0 lead.
The Golden Eagles went into halftime leading the Blue Raiders 1-0 with four more shots in the half.
Middle Tennessee continued to put pressure on Southern Miss when Angie Lai sent the ball into the box as Emily Jorgenson slid in to finish the goal and tie the game at 1-1 in the 70th minute.
Four minutes later the Golden Eagles fouled MT in good position. Amalie Anderdal served the ball in as sophomore Courteney Gibson got on the end of the rebound and scored to give the Blue Raiders the 2-1 lead. The goal was the first goal of Gibson's collegiate career.
With less than four minutes left in regulation, Adkins scored her second goal of the game off of a free kick to tie the game once again at 2-2.
The game was sent into overtime as 90 minutes was not enough to decide a winner. The Blue Raiders dominated play in the second half with two goals, five corner kicks, 12 shots and forced USM's goalkeeper to make three saves.
This marked the sixth overtime game of the season for the Blue Raiders; tying a program record for most overtime games in a season. The two teams would go scoreless in overtime to end the game at 2-2.
Brouwer ended the game with five saves and currently has 177 career saves. The Blue Raiders and the Golden Eagles both recorded 19 shots in the game and seven shots on goal. MT had 13 corner kicks in the game to USM's seven.
The Blue Raiders will get back in action on October 10 as they host Florida Atlantic to continue conference play.
