Tugumisirize to represent Uganda at Commonwealth Games

Former Blue Raider holds MT indoor 400 record
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Former Middle Tennessee track & field star Emmanuel Tugumisirize is slated to compete for Uganda at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games Monday, July 28 to Saturday, Aug. 2 at the Hampden Park Stadium in Glasgow, United Kingdom.
The Commonwealth Games last for 11 days and start Thursday, July 24 and will end Sunday, Aug. 3. The games feature 17 different sports that range from track & field, gymnastics, powerlifting to wrestling (For a full list of sports visit Glassgow.com). The track & field competitions start Sunday, July 27 and end Saturday, Aug. 2.
Tugumisirize, a 400-meter and 200-meter specialist, is scheduled to compete for Uganda in the 400-meter and 4x400-meter relay. The Kampula native was a three-time All-American at Middle Tennessee, earning second-team honors at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 4x400 relay and the 400. He also earned second-team accolades during the 2013-14 indoor season in the 400-meter.
During his senior outdoor track campaign, he set a personal-best 45.69 second time in the 400-meter at the NCAA East Preliminary Round and helped break a 32-year old school record in the sprint medley relay. Tugumisirize holds the Middle Tennessee indoor 400-meter school record after his 46.05 second performance at the Vanderbilt Indoor Invitational.
The first round of 400-meter heats begins July 28th at 5:25 a.m. (CT), while the first heat of the 4x400-meter relay is slated for Aug. 1 at 12:35 a.m. (CT). Follow results live by visiting Glasgow2014.com or by clicking here.
