Louisiana Tech went on top 7-0 after Ken Dixon scored from five yards out with 9:51 remaining in the first quarter, but Middle Tennessee quickly answered.
Stockstill capped a 15-play, 65-yard drive when he found Batties in the end zone for a 4-yard scoring pass midway through the first quarter. Stockstill was 6-of-7 on the drive and converted three third-down conversions, including a 21-yard pass to Batties on third-and-10 from the Blue Raider 35, and an 11-yard pass to Christian Collis on a third-and-5. The Blue Raiders' touchdown came on a third-and-goal play.
The Bulldogs came back with a long touchdown pass as they regained the lead, 14-7, which is where it stood through the first quarter. Middle Tennessee scored first in the second quarter when Cody Clark connected from 23 yards out to narrow the deficit to 14-10 with 11:12 remaining in the first half.
Louisiana Tech wasted no time separating itself after Middle Tennessee had pulled closer. Dixon scored his second touchdown of the first half, and the Bulldogs scored on an interception return for a touchdown to push the lead to 28-10 midway through the second quarter.
Following a second Blue Raider turnover of the quarter, Louisiana Tech scored on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Driskel to Dixon on the first play after the miscue to take a 35-10 lead with 7:25 remaining in the first half.
