MT Routs North Texas 85-59 to Stay Atop C-USA
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Two trends have served Middle Tennessee well under Head Coach Rick Insell – scoring 80 points or more and playing at home.
North Texas had to deal with both trends in a C-USA showdown in front of 4,414 at Middle Tennessee's Murphy Center here Saturday.
Middle Tennessee rolled to an 85-59 triumph against North Texas to remain atop the C-USA standings. The Blue Raiders (17-6, 11-2) won their third straight and eighth in 10 games. The Blue Raiders are averaging 75 points per game during the last 10 and they are allowing just 57.7 during this stretch.
Olivia Jones, Gabby Lyon and Cheyenne Parker led the way as Middle Tennessee piled up 85 points and shot nearly 50 percent from the field against the Mean Green (3-20, 2-11).
The Blue Raiders improved to 89-2 when scoring 80-plus under Insell, and they also improved to 81-4 against conference opponents at Murphy Center in his nine-plus seasons.
"I'm pleased with the way we played today," Insell said. "We can continue to play better but we did a good job all around today. We received contribution up and down the lineup and from several different players and that's always a good thing."
Jones led Middle Tennessee with a game-high 23 points and pulled seven rebounds. She also swiped four steals.
Freshman Gabby Lyon enjoyed her best game as a Blue Raider with a season-high 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting in just 14 minutes. She also had three rebounds. Parker just missed her 14th double-double of the season with 14 points and nine rebounds. She also had three steals, three blocked shots and two assists.
Brea Edwards and Ty Petty just missed double figures with nine each. Petty also had four assists and four rebounds. China Dow and Rebecca Reuter had five points each. Reuter also had two assists and a career-high two blocks.
McKenzie Sells (2), Shanice Cason (2), and Abbey Sissom (1) also got into the scoring act for Middle Tennessee. Cason also had four assists and just one turnover as she continued to produce strong results for the Blue Raiders.
