Blue Raiders win 19-2 in series finale
The 19 runs scored is the highest production since the Blue Raiders manufactured 24 on March 10, 2013 against Xavier, and the 18 hits equal last season's high when MT slugged 18 twice against Mississippi Valley State. The Blue Raider offense has produced 57 runs, tying the 2010 squad's output in the same time frame.
Five Blue Raiders registered multi-hit efforts, including Brad Jarreau's career-high 4-for-5 performance with two RBI. The sophomore is now leading the team with a .450 average while hitting in the ninth spot. Kaleb King (3-for-6; 3 RBI, 2 R) and Jared Allen (3-for-5; 2 RBI, 3 R) each tallied three hits as Dustin Delgado (2-for-3; 2 RBI, 2 R) and Ronnie Jebavy (2-for-6; 4 RBI, 3 R) collected two hits apiece.
Austin Bryant singled in the sixth, pushing his hit streak to 11 games, while Michael Adkins delivered his team-high 15th RBI in the fifth inning.
Heath Slatton (1-1) bounced back after giving up a two-run homer in the first inning and provided five quality innings (career high). The junior right hander struck out three and surrendered six hits, earning his first career win as a starter.
The Blue Raiders answered with five runs in their first at-bat after going down 2-0 and never looked back. Jake Ingold recorded an RBI walk to get the scoring started and Jebavy cleared the bases in the next at-bat with a deep double to the left-center gap.
MT broke the game open with eight runs on six hits in the fifth and pushed five more across in the seventh. The Blue Raiders also benefitted from six WIU defensive miscues.
Will Small (2.0 IP) and Caleb Smith (1.0 IP) retired each batter they faced, and along with Keaton Baker (1.0 IP), didn't allow a WIU hit.
Preston Church (0-1) was handed the loss in his first start of the season for the visitors.
Middle Tennessee's midweek matchup with Tennessee Tech on Tuesday, Feb. 24 has been canceled with the possibility of the game being played on Wednesday in Cookeville, Tennessee. Check back with GoBlueRaiders.com on Tuesday for an announcement on the schedule change.
