Face Temple In WNIT Quarterfinals Sunday
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee's historic postseason run continues Sunday when the Blue Raiders play host to Temple in the quarterfinals of the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).
A national tournament beginning with 64 teams is down to eight – and Middle Tennessee is one of them.
Tipoff for the Blue Raiders' 34th game of the 2014-15 season is 4 p.m. at Murphy Center. The number of games is significant.
The 34th game equals the school record for most games played in any season.
March 29 is the latest date Middle Tennessee has ever played.
Until this season, no Blue Raider team had ever won multiple games in a national postseason tournament.
Middle Tennessee (24-9) is one win from advancing to the final four of the WNIT after winning three straight games to reach Sunday's showdown against Temple (19-16).
This Middle Tennessee team is one of the highest scoring and best rebounding squads in program history. The undersized but Blue-collar working Middle Tennessee squad's 1,326 rebounds are the second most in program history. The Blue Raiders' 2,397 points are sixth most in school history.
Prior to the season, Head Coach Rick Insell said the Blue Raiders' would be a much-better shooting team in 2014-15 after struggling from beyond the 3-point arc the previous season. He was correct. The Blue Raiders' 248 3-pointers are currently sixth most in a single season.
By all accounts, Middle Tennessee's 2014-15 season has blossomed into one of the best in the program's 40-year history.
Middle Tennessee will look to take another historic step when it faces Temple Sunday.
