Blue Raiders fall to 49ers in C-USA Tournament

MT drops to fourth-seeded Charlotte
NORFOLK, Va. – Middle Tennessee men's tennis fell shy in the Conference USA quarterfinal to fourth-seeded Charlotte as the 49ers took a 4-2 victory on Friday afternoon.
The quarterfinal battle was fought for nearly four hours as the two teams continued play back-and-forth.
Yannick Born and Miguel Negre Fernandez slipped at the No. 2 doubles spot to the 49er's J Massalle Ferrer and Kamil Khalil 8-6. The No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches would prove to be a true battle as the two courts remained tied deep into the match.
Charlotte eventually clinched the doubles point after Vikram Hundal and Jack Williams took down Ettore Zito and Victor Hoang on the top-court 8-7.
With the 49ers leading 1-0 heading into singles play Gian Issa made quick work to tie it up with a 6-1, 6-0 straight set victory at the No. 3 singles spot.
Alex Calott put the 49ers ahead once again after clinching a 6-4, 6-2 win over MT's Victor Hoang at the No. 5 position, followed by Charlotte's Paul Cisti taking a 6-4, 6-4 win at the No. 6 over Dima Zymantovich that put the 49ers ahead 3-1.
Robin Riethmueller rallied back in a back-and-forth battle at the No. 4 spot to grab the victory 7-5, 7-6 (7-1).
Born went down in the first set 4-6 to Hundal at the No. 2 position but fought back to take a 6-4 edge in the second set. Charlotte clinched the match as Hundal secured the 7-6 (8-6) win in the third set.
The Blue Raiders close the season at 13-13 after falling in the C-USA quarterfinal, while Charlotte advanced to the semifinal to face top-seeded Rice.
