Blue Raiders Tie Lady Bisons, 2-2

MT got two goals from defenders
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's soccer team tallied its most goals of the season, but only managed a 2-2 tie against Lipscomb at home on Sunday night.
"I feel like it was a very balanced match," head coach Aston Rhoden said. "I think the result was some-what fair. We had a lot of offense but just couldn't convert enough."
Down 1-0 in the first half, Emily Jorgenson headed in a Tori Hawkins corner kick to earn an equalizer. The goal was Jorgenson's second of the year and Hawkins' second assist in as many games.
The Blue Raiders got another goal from a defender on a set-piece when senior Taylor Kirk finished off a perfect corner kick from Courteney Gibson in the 51st minute. The score was Kirk's first of her career and the first dish from Gibson in her three seasons.
The sides had several more chances through the final 25 minutes of regulation, but were unable to convert.
Abbie Brown and Grace Stewart each had shots on goal during the second overtime, but LU goalkeeper Anna Buhigas saved both to earn her team the tie.
The MT offense outshot its counterpart, 23-14, and crushed the Lady Bisons in corner kicks, 10-2. Two of those 10 corners for the Blue Raiders led to goals.
Defensively, Middle Tennessee only allowed one goal and goalkeeper Kelsey Brouwer made seven saves including three in the first overtime.
Thursday night marked the first MT game in which both teams scored. The Blue Raiders entered with four shutouts and lost to Indiana, 2-0, last week.
Middle Tennessee will re-take the pitch on Sunday when the team travels to Murray State. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
