Kelsey Brouwer Made Seven Saves
MURRAY, Ky. – The Middle Tennessee State soccer team fought hard in the second half, but fell at Murray State, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon.
"We started the game pretty slow and Murray State jumped on us early in the game," head coach Aston Rhoden said. "I thought we played much more aggressively on offense in the second half but in doing so, gave up another goal."
The Blue Raiders (4-2-1) were outshot 13 to three in the first period and trailed 1-0 after a goal in the 10' from MSU's Harriet Withers.
MT was much more attack-oriented after halftime and had more scoring chances than their opponent (eight to six). However, the Racers (4-2) took advantage of its opportunities as Taylor Stevens netted a goal with just over seven minutes to play to put MSU ahead for good.
Senior keeper Kelsey Brouwer made seven saves in the match, but the MT defense allowed a pair of goals for the second consecutive contest.
A few days since tallying a 10-2 advantage on corner kicks against Lipscomb, MT found itself down 5-1 in the category on Sunday.
Offensively, Tori Hawkins led the squad with three shots and two attempts on goal.
The Blue Raiders will look to regroup when they take the pitch on Sept. 18 at Mercer. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
