MT falls on the road at Mercer
MACON, Ga. – A Mercer goal in the second minute proved to be an early knockout blow as the Middle Tennessee soccer team lost its final non-conference game of the season, 1-0, on the road on Friday night.
"Outside of the first 90 seconds of the game, I thought we played well," head coach Aston Rhoden said. "We were not aggressive enough in the box on both sides of the ball and it cost us this game. We will have to improve in both areas to get ready to C-USA play."
Officially, 1:38 had ticked off the clock when MU's Katelyn Dimopoulos knocked in the only goal of the match off of a throw-in.
From that point, MT outshot Mercer (3-4-2) in the first half, 7-6, and had more chances on goal in the game (five to four). However, MU goalie Maggie Cropp turned in a clean-sheet with five saves.
Outside of the early score, MT keeper Kelsey Brouwer had another fine performance, notching three saves.
Offensively, Tori Hawkins tuned in a nice outing and all three of her shots were on goal. Grace Summers and Angie Lai also chipped in with two shots apiece.
MT was called for 10 fouls in the road contest and the Bears had just four.
The Blue Raiders close non-conference play with a 4-3-1 record and will begin C-USA action on Sept. 25 with a home matchup against Southern Miss.
