Soccer Prepares for C-USA Play

MT will host USM on Friday and travel to UAB, Sunday
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Following a solid start to the season in non-conference play, the Middle Tennessee soccer team will begin C-USA play this weekend when the Blue Raiders host Southern Miss on Sept. 25 and travel to UAB on Sept. 27.
MT has posted a 4-3-1 record through the first eight games and is coming off of a, 1-0, loss at Mercer last Sunday. The Bears scored an early goal in the second minute of the game and the Blue Raiders were unable to score on their 11 chances.
Middle Tennessee has done a nice job at creating chances on the season and has outshot its opponents 125-86 on the year and have a higher on goal percentage .480-.465.
However, the team has been unlucky in that only 4.8 percent of the team's attempts have found the back of the net.
Southern Miss enters Friday's contest with a 2-4-3 record and losers of three straight. The Golden Eagles are ninth in C-USA in goals scored (9), but goalie Brittany Taylor is third in the league in saves with 43.
UAB, meanwhile, is currently 1-6 but will play Charlotte on Friday night prior to squaring off against Middle Tennessee. The Blazers are riding a rough, six-game losing streak in which they have been outscored, 16-3.UAB ranks 12th in the C-USA in both goals scored (seven) and goal allowed (19).
MT's conference opener against Southern Miss will kickoff at 7 p.m. at home on Friday night. The promotion for the game will be Superhero Night and fans are encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero. Prizes will be awarded to the best dressed. The game will also be a Kid's Club Night.
The Blue Raiders' first C-USA road trip against UAB will begin at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Blue Raider Bullets:
· Senior Grace Summers scored the opening goal of the season at Tennessee Tech on Aug. 23. She led the Blue Raiders in points in 2014 with 14.
· Emily Jorgenson is the only Blue Raider to score multiple goals this season doing so against Western Carolina on Aug. 30 and Lipscomb on Sept. 10.
· Brianna Jasenak is the only MT non-defender to score a goal in the last five matches.
· MT is only outshooting opponents 48-43 in the first half, but that mark rises to 77-43 after halftime.
· The Blue Raiders are 4-3-1, but have scored fewer goals (six) than they have allowed (seven).
· Kelsey Brouwer on the all-time MT lists: 249 saves (3rd), 27 wins (2nd), 21 shutouts (1st). With three saves, Brouwer would move into a tie for second.
