Raiders drop 4-1 decision to UTEP on Senior Day
10/16/2016 4:25:00 PM | Women's Soccer
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – It was a tough ending to the home schedule Sunday as the Blue Raiders fell to UTEP, 4-1, on Senior Day at Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.
Freshman Salera Jordan notched her team-leading seventh goal, the most by a Blue Raider since Kate Loye's seven in 2013.
Middle Tennessee opened up the contest attacking UTEP quickly, putting a goal into the back of the net off the foot of Jordan in just the fourth minute to take an early 1-0 lead.
UTEP answered in the 17th minute of action when a loose ball in the box was picked up and fired inside the far post, evening the score at 1-1.
UTEP scored two more times in quick succession just minutes later, using 23rd and 24th minute goals to take a 3-1 lead just over halfway through the first period.
After some back and forth play for the better part of 20 minutes, UTEP took a commanding 4-1 lead when they scored a goal with just one second left on the clock in the first half.
The Blue Raiders made some changes at the back coming out of the locker room looking to slow down the Miners, and did just that as they were able to hold the Miners scoreless in the second 45 minutes.
After being down 13-5 in shots and 8-2 in shots on goal in the first half, the Raider defense showed some resiliency in the second half by holding UTEP to just five shots with none on frame in the second half.
Middle Tennessee will look to carry that defensive intensity into the final weekend of the season when they take on LA Tech Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Ruston, La.
