MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee looks to push for a spot in the Conference USA Tournament this weekend as the Blue Raiders head out for two road matches to wrap up conference play this weekend. MT faces off against LA Tech at 7:00 p.m. Friday and goes to Southern Miss for a 1:00 p.m. match Sunday.
Middle and LA Tech have squared off three times in program history with the series tied 1-1-1. The Blue Raiders won the 2014 meeting, 1-0, and took the Bulldogs to a 0-0 double overtime draw a season ago.
Southern Miss and Middle Tennessee have played six times with the Golden Eagles holding a slight series lead, 3-2-1. However, it is MT that has had the upper hand as of late, remaining unbeaten in the series since 2006. Since entering Conference USA, the Blue Raiders have played the Golden Eagles just twice, holding a 1-0-1 record.
Middle Tennessee (4-10-1) enters the weekend coming off of a pair of home losses against Rice and UTEP. The Blue Raiders managed a goal in each game but were unable slow the offensive attack of either the Owls and Miners. Kerri Cook scored the lone goal against Rice while Salera Jordan recorded her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the game versus UTEP.
In addition to leading the team in goals, Jordan also has a team-high 49 shots this season. Abbie Brown has four goals and two assists while Gibson leads the team in assists with four.
Celeste Barnard has started the last four games in goal for the Blue Raiders and has tallied 22 saves on the year after collecting a career-high eight stops against Rice.
LA Tech enters the match after splitting two games last weekend. The Bulldogs lost 4-0 to Charlotte before picking up a 2-0 win over Old Dominion.
Kathryn Sloan scored one of the two goals for LA Tech last weekend pushing her to a team-high seven on the year to go with a team-leading six assists. She also has a conference-leading 65 shots on the season. Also an offensive threat for LA Tech is Mylene Ray-Ouellet who has six goals on the year and Jenna Dages who has scored four.
Kylee Seto will man the net for the Bulldogs and has logged just under 1,000 minutes for the season prior to entering the match with Middle. She holds a 7-4 record, picking up 44 saves this year.
Southern Miss comes to the contest following two 1-0 losses last weekend, once of which occurred in overtime. The Golden Eagles lost to Old Dominion in the 101st minute while Charlotte got the win off a penalty kick goal in the 67th minute.
Katie Richmond and Bri Schubeck lead the Eagles in goals with four each. Richmond has also recorded two assists while Stephanie Garcia leads the team in the category with four. On defense, Beth Coleman has played in all 14 games this season and earned C-USA Defensive Player of the Week honors in August.
