MT on the road to open up outdoor action
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Middle Tennessee men's tennis will go on the road for two matches this week in Florida to open up the outdoors portion of the season.
"This spring break trip to Florida is a chance for us to get a lot of outdoor practice in, enjoy a great team trip, and continue to gel as a team," MT head coach Jimmy Borendame said.
The 10-3 Blue Raiders will square off against Miami (FL) on Tuesday in Coral Gables at 11 a.m. CT. The Hurricanes will enter play with a record of 6-4. While they're unranked, they've faced two ranked opponents, losing 4-3 to No. 19 Michigan and most recently defeating No. 47 Florida State, 4-3.
"This is a great group of guys and we will just put in the time outdoors and put up a great fight against a very strong Miami team," Borendame added.
Fans can watch the match against Miami (FL) on ESPN3. Live stats will also be available for the match.
MT will get their first taste of Conference USA action in the 2016 season on Friday at noon CT against Florida Atlantic. The Owls are currently 6-6, but have a matchup with Xavier on Tuesday. Wins over UCF, Stetson and Davidson highlight the schedule thus far for FAU.
"This trip is going to make us tougher and I am looking forward to us getting more experience against tough opponents in hostile environments," Borendame said. "In the end, this is great preparation for the C-USA tournament in Houston in late April."
Freshmen Ayed Zatar Cordero and Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore lead the Blue Raiders in singles play on the season so far, as both have posted 10-2 records. Miguel Negre Fernandez boasts a 9-2 record through the month of February, and Dima Zyhmantovich is at 8-4, primarily at the No. 1 spot. Morell and Zatar lead the way in doubles with a record of 8-3.
