MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's soccer team begins its Conference USA schedule on Sunday by hosting UAB. The game kicks off at 5:00 p.m. at the Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.
The Blue Raiders enter the match having never lost to the Blazers. The two teams have met four times in the past with MT recording two shutout victories. In the most recent clash in 2015, Middle won 2-1. Current senior Angie Lai had the game winner in the contest while current junior for UAB, Bri Kuestersteffen scored for the Blazers. Lai also netted the game winner in the Blue Raiders 2014 1-0 win over UAB.
Both MT and UAB played Belmont earlier this season taking the Bruins to overtime but finishing in 1-1 draws. The Blazers game against Belmont served as an exhibition match.
Middle Tennessee (2-4-1) is currently in the midst of a five-game winless streak with the last win coming back on Aug. 26 over Jackson State, 6-2. The Blue Raiders are also looking to break out of a goal drought as well, scoring just once in the last five games.
The last goal MT scored came off the foot of freshman Salera Jordan. Of late, Jordan has taken the brunt of the Blue Raiders' shots on net with 26. She has also scored one other goal this season to bring her season total to two. Abbie Brown also has two goals on the year to go along with an assist.
In goal for MT, Sydney Chalcraft has played close to every minute of the season, recording 35 saves and one shutout.
UAB comes into the match with a losing 3-4 record. The Blazers have recorded wins over UT Martin, UNC Asheville and McNeese State but recently traveled to California for two-games, falling in both.
Sophomore Caroline Kehrer leads the Blazers in goals with three to go with an assist. Rachel Green leads the team in assists with three and also has a goal on the year. Kehrer scored two of her three goals against UNC Asheville as both were assisted by Green. Kehrer then turned around and assisted on Green's goal in the same contest.
Goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty has seen every minute of action for the Blazers, managing 31 saves with a shutout.
