Blue Raiders open conference play at UAB

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – For the 11th time this season, the Blue Raiders hit the road as Middle Tennessee opens the conference slate of its schedule at UAB Friday night.
First serve for Friday's tilt with the Blazers is set for 7 p.m. and can be seen via the Conference USA streaming site, CUSA.TV.
The Raiders (3-10) roll into Birmingham after going 1-2 in the VCU Invitational. MT opened last weekend with a win against Morgan State before dropping the final two matches against host VCU and Liberty.
The Blue Raiders are led by Bailey Mason and Regan Coughlin offensively as the duo tops the team with 97 and 91 kills, respectively.
Jacqueline Lux, who eclipsed the 500 assists mark for her career in the win against Morgan State, leads MT with 380 helpers for the season. Her 8.84 assists per set ratio is also sixth best in the league.
Defensively, MT leans on middle blockers Delaney Gallagher and Dora Peonia who claim 26 and 25 blocks, respectively. Libero Meg Irvin has anchored the back court with 157 digs in 43 set this year.
As a team, the Raiders also succeed from the service line. MT has tallied 63 aces this year and rank fifth in the conference with 1.40 aces per set.
UAB (7-8) enters league play following a 0-3 weekend in the Fight Like Hal Memorial Invitational.
Petra Silic has logged 128 kills and sits eighth in the conference with a .314 hitting percentage. Amber Treace has dished out 582 assists, and her 10.58 assists per set ranks third in C-USA.
Friday will mark the 19th time the Raiders and Blazers have met on the court. The match will also serve to break a 9-9 series tie. The Blazers hold a 5-2 advantage all-time against MT when playing in Birmingham.
Following Friday's match, the Blue Raiders will remain on the road to close the weekend at Marshall. Sunday's showdown with the Herd is slated for a 12 p.m. CT start.
