MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's soccer team returns home to host Florida Atlantic on Friday night in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
The Blue Raiders and Owls have faced off 12 times in the history of the programs with MT holding an all-time record of 8-4 against FAU. Middle is in the midst of a five-game win streak when facing the Owls with the most recent victory occurring in October of 2014 when MT sealed a 1-0 win with a 79th minute goal.
Middle Tennessee (3-5-1) is coming off of a tough road loss to UTSA last weekend in which Salera Jordan netted an early goal before the Roadrunners countered with three of their own to take a 3-1 lead just after halftime. Jordan scored again in the game but the Blue Raiders were unable to get an equalizer, moving to 1-1 in conference play.
Jordan now has a team-leading five goals and 33 shots on the year. Abbie Brown has four goals for the Blue Raiders to go with two assists. Courteney Gibson leads the team in assists with four, picking up an assist for the second straight contest on MT's first score at UTSA.
Freshman Sydney Chalcraft recorded four saves in net at UTSA to bring her season total to 47 and is amongst the leaders in C-USA in saves per game.
FAU comes into the match with a 5-5-1 record and a 1-1 record in conference play. The Owls have struggled on the road this season, going 0-4 away from home. Florida Atlantic posted a win over Florida International last week before losing on the road to Old Dominion as both contests were decided by just one goal.
Sammy Rowland leads the Owls in scoring with four goals including the game winner against FIU. She was also named Conference USA offensive player of the week on August 29 after scoring twice in a two game stretch. Seven other players have also tallied a goal for FAU this season.
On defense, the Owls have Preseason All-Conference USA selections in defender Erica Burt as well as goalkeeper Sydney Drinkwater. Burt has anchored the Owl defense while Drinkwater has played ten games in net for FAU posting a 4-5-1 record with 43 saves and a goals against average below 1.00.
