Blue Raiders Travel to UTSA Before Returning to the Boro

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee volleyball team (5-15, 1-5 C-USA) travels to San Antonio, Texas to compete against the UTSA Roadrunners in the Convocation Center on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. before returning to Murfreesboro to host the Charlotte 49ers on Sunday, Oct. 15 in the Alumni Memorial Gym.
Last Time Out
The Blue Raiders notched its first conference win of the season in five sets versus LA Tech during their Dig Pink match on Friday, Oct. 6. Sophomore Dora Peonia paved the way for Middle Tennessee recording a career-best 19 kills plus another career-high nine service aces. Similarly, junior Regan Coughlin inked 13 kills and 11 digs while junior Bailey Mason posted eight kills and two assisted blocks.
However, the squad fell in straight sets to Florida Atlantic on Sunday Oct. 8. Junior duo Mason and Coughlin posted for a combined nine kills over the Owls.
Scouting the Opponents
The UTSA Roadrunners (5-11, 1-3 C-USA) opened its season with a competitive field playing two top-25 teams to enter Friday's match with a 5-11 overall record and 3-1 in Conference USA play. UTSA sophomore Brianna McCulloh leads the squads offense recording 248 kills (3.82 k/s) on the season while sophomore Emily Ramirez paces the teams defense with 203 (3.38 d/s) this year.
The Charlotte 49ers (16-5, 3-2 C-USA) opened its conference play with a four set victory over Marshall and currently sits fourth in the conference with a 3-2 C-USA record. The 49er offense is paced by senior Janell Sparks and freshman Sydney Rowan posting a combined 503 kills on the season. On the defensive end, sophomore Yumi Garcia averages 5.36 digs per set and notched 429 kills on the year.

After a split weekend of travel, the Blue Raiders will continue its conference play on the road traveling to matches hosted by Southern Miss on Friday, Oct. 20 and UAB on Sunday, Oct. 22.
